Chicago Fire FC's new stadium, set to open in 2028, has officially been named McDonald's Park, marking a significant partnership between the club and the Chicago-based fast-food giant. The stadium, located at 'The 78' in the South Loop, will serve as a world-class sports and entertainment destination, anchoring year-round programming and creating a new gathering place for fans, families, and communities. According to officials, McDonald's will play an active role in shaping the park, including the design of a flagship restaurant inside the stadium and immersive fan experiences. Chris Kempczinski, Chairman and CEO of McDonald’s, stated that the partnership aims to create a place that serves up joy, brings together community, delivers impact, and is designed to serve generations to come. The stadium will seat over 22,000 people for soccer matches and more for concerts and special events. Groundbreaking at the site took place earlier this year, with the team reaffirming its commitment to private financing of the stadium. Joe Mansueto, the team's owner, is privately paying for the stadium, while TIF dollars will go into infrastructure, such as utilities, road work, and the seawall. The project is expected to have a significant impact on the community, with a focus on youth soccer programs and social-emotional learning. Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson praised the team and McDonald's for their focus on youth impacts, stating that the support will extend access to safe, welcoming spaces for young people to learn and grow. The stadium will integrate public plazas, activated outdoor spaces, and connectivity to surrounding retail and residential development, positioning it as both a matchday destination and a year-round city asset. With McDonald's help, the team plans to expand its youth soccer programs, impacting over 125,000 kids in Chicago and making soccer free and accessible to them.
